🐪 Weekly Briefing

Two festivals, six study spots and grown adults voluntarily jumping into near-freezing water in tiaras and cowboy hats. Also: a boy who never forgets, and a beer that’s mostly foam.

Söderhallarna Reopens

Söderhallarna returns this Friday after a major renovation, ready to challenge the old guard. Will it measure up to Hötorgshallen or Östermalms Saluhall?

💻 Laptop-Friendly Spots in Stockholm for People Who Can’t Study at Home

Our favorites
  • ☕ RO Coffee Space - Hammarby Sjöstad: Laid-back and unhurried, ideal for morning study over breakfast. Seats too stiff to doze off in, which is why you get things done.

  • 🤓 KTH bibliotek - Östermalm: Anyone can study here, not just KTH students. The queue outside before the 8 a.m. opening proves the secret is already very much out.

  • 🧑‍💻 Urban Deli - Sveavägen: Downstairs, past the spiral staircase, sits the group-work corner. Finish up the project, then reward yourself with a rooftop drink.

Honourable mentions
  • 🪟 Kulturhuset - Norrmalm: Front-row views of Sergels torg. Airy and open, with communal seating outside the library. Desks are scarce, as are power outlets.

  • 🛋️ Downtown Camper Café & Coworking - Norrmalm: Pay 99kr and the lobby is yours for the day, Wi-Fi, coffee and tea included. Choose a sofa, a stool or a closed booth, all in a space quiet enough to hear yourself think.

  • 📖 Riksdagsbiblioteket - Gamla stan: Who wouldn’t want to study in a beautiful space inside Gamla stan? The price of admission: a mandatory security check. Just remember, seats are limited.

👉 More Stuff Happening

Other Events
  • World Swim Hat Day - Liljeholmskajen: Grown adults in tiaras and cowboy hats leap into near-freezing water during this folk fest. Take the 14:00 plunge, but remember to bring warm clothes and a thermos for the aftermath, 25 Oct, 13.00 - 15.00.

  • Avskalat vin- & ciderfestival - Brygghuset: A room full of natural wine and craft cider made with as few additives and interventions as possible. Don’t let the murky look or the funk scare you off. It mostly tastes good, 24 Oct, 12.00 - 21.00, Entry: 250kr

  • Gröna Lund Halloween 2026 - Djurgården: Gröna Lund stays open until 22:00 for Halloween, with five haunted attractions and elaborate decorations. New for 2026: fire performers, smoke and rave lighting. Basically Berghain with roller coasters, 9 Oct - 8 Nov.

🗿 Stockholm Lore: The Boy Who Never Forgets

Stockholm’s smallest statue

Leaving Stockholm for a while? Pay “Järnpojken” a visit in Gamla stan. Place a coin at his feet and, according to folklore, you’ll return safely. The coins go to the Finnish Church’s collection, and whatever you do, don’t take them. That brings bad luck. The boy sees everything and forgets nothing.

P.S. Years of visitors rubbing his head have polished it to a shine. According to legend, rubbing it brings good luck or makes a wish come true.

🎯 The Spot

Krogen Soldaten Svejk

Why Go? Czech comfort food served in a no-frills tavern. Schnitzel, goulash and dumplings. A true counterweight to Södermalm’s trendy concept restaurants.

The Vibe: It feels like a WWI soldier would stop for a drink here on his way to the front. Classic dining hall upstairs, arched cellar ceilings downstairs.

Good to Know… Drop-in only, and loud. Get a hladinka, Czech beer poured with a super foamy, creamy crown.

Weekend Game Plan

Friday: Judge Söderhallarna’s comeback and browse the stalls, then settle the verdict over Czech beer (one-third foam) at Krogen Soldaten Svejk.

Saturday: Hit up Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival with the boys and calculate the APK of every beverage (alcohol unit per krona). Or join the girls at Avskalat vin- & ciderfestival, only to take home the bottle with the prettiest label.

Sunday: Join the cold plunge at World Swim Hat Day in your silliest hat. Change, heat up, and go gather some karma by rubbing Järnpojken’s head in Gamla stan.
